Experience the spiritual poetry of RS Thomas, in this evocative pilgrim sanctuary.

'But the silence in the mind / is when we live best, within / listening distance of the silence / we call God'

RS Thomas was one of Wales' greatest Welsh poets writing in English.

St Hywyn’s in Aberdaron was his last parish. The medieval church stands above the Irish Sea where you can hear the waves breaking on the shore below, at the end of the Llyn Peninsula in North Wales.

You will experience his spiritual poetry in this evocative pilgrim sanctuary, focusing on features in the church that connect with his poetry. A prayerful, meditative experience, by candlelight with music inspired by his poetry, this is a time for stillness and personal reflection. This might be your first introduction to hearing eight of Thomas’s poems read aloud or a re-reading of the poems that you know; bringing them off the page and alive into your presence.

Taking around 75 minutes and with a maximum of 15 people. This will be a safe space in which to find peace and personal reflection.

This tour is exclusive to ExploreChurches.
