St Margaret’s church nestles in the picturesque Norfolk Hamlet of Breckles.

The church sits beside a historic Elizabethan house, Breckles Hall and is part of the Wayland group of parishes, in the Diocese of Norwich. The dominant feature in approaching the Church is the tower, with its circular section rising to 35ft and having a noticeable taper or batter, thought to date from 1000/1050AD. Above this is a small rectangular slit window within a dressed frame. The octagonal top storey of the tower was added in the late 15th/early 16th century.

The church is regularly visited by members of the Round Tower Churches Society. It has a magnificent font and most likely dates from around 1110AD. The pews and internal furniture are mostly Victorian but the rood screen, with its original doors, is said to date from the 15th century.

St Margaret’s is a well cared for church and considering it’s considerable age, is in surprisingly good condition. At present it needs no serious structural renovations or repairs. It has a well kept churchyard that is regularly maintained and the church has a large car park for both worshippers and visitors.
