St Luke

St Luke’s most outstanding features are the beautiful stained glass windows and the memorial to Mary Jane Lovell, who went to Palestine in 1892 and founded the Lovell Society for the Blind.

Hanes yr eglwys hon

St Luke's was built in the Early English style of the 13th century, but what we see today is a result of much alteration and renovation over the intervening years.

There are several beautiful stained glass windows. The east window is vibrantly decorated with owls and flowers dedicated to Revd Henry Hales, who was a much loved, feared and respected rector. He also held the world hammer throwing record for 22 years! When the organ was removed, it allowed a very vibrant coloured stained glass window to be seen again, which had been hidden from view for over one hundred years.

There is a memorial to Mary Jane Lovell, who went to Palestine in 1892 and founded the Lovell Society for the Blind, which still exists in Middle East today.

Every Thursday from 10 am you can enjoy coffee, cake and a chat at the coffee morning held in church. Everyone is most welcome. There is a good selection of books and jigsaws on sale in the tower. Why not come along and have a browse.

If you are researching family trees there is a list of the graves and a plan of the churchyard to help you locate the headstones.

Eglwys Crist

Adeiladwyd yr eglwys gyntaf ar y safle hwn yn 1841, ond fe’i difrodwyd yn ddifrifol gan dân. Yn ôl yr hanes, ym mis Mai 1891, cynhaliodd y Ficer ‘briodas yn yr adfeilion’.
